Here are a few questions that I threw at Eric, the guitar player from Sex Positions, in an email. Definitely check out the band if you haven't already, and keep your eyes open for their debut CDep on Deathwish Inc.

What inspired you to get involved with independent music?

It's just one of those things that you run into when you're 14 and you go end up getting flyers for local shows, you check them out, and you realize that everyone there is just like you.

What were some of the records that really added fuel to your fire when you first got into hardcore?

Roswell 7", old cave in records, converge, ten yard fight, bane

When did you start playing guitar? Who are some of the guitar players that have inspired you and continue to inspire your playing?

When i was 13 i started playing guitar and got a weezer TAB book , in the past few years bands like the nerve agents, ink and dagger, and death by stereo kept me inspired to keep writing music.

H
ow do you feel about The Dedication now that the band is over?

The dedication was something that meant a lot to me and will always be something i remember. I think we accomplished a lot in such little time, and that it should have kept going, but 2 kids in the band just didnt feel the same way.

How do you feel the last show went over? Do you feel that the band ended at the right time, or that there was a lot more potential to explore; were there things you wish you had accomplished?

I thought it was unreal. Its like , who the fuck writes a six song EP and then only 6 months after it comes out, has this ridicolous huge last show? it just didnt make sense. There was definatly more potential to do a lot more, i think we did accomplish a lot in such little time, but we never got to the west coast or canada, we had a lot in store and lined up , we had just teamed up with the kenmore agency booking....i was pissed to say the least.

Is everyone from the Dedication still on good terms? Do you know if the Kilfoyle brothers are going to be working on any musical projects?

Everyone still talks and is friends, but its not the same. the kilfoyle brothers arent doing anything musically right now.

There was talk of there being a posthumous LP from The Dedication, is there any hope for that? Is there the slight possibility of a reunion show ever happening?

It might happen this spring/summer. but they definatlly dont want to play shows if it does. We'll see what happens.

After the demise of The Dedication, did you, Larry, and Rich immediately decide that you all wanted to work together on another project? How long was it before before you guys got the ball rolling on the new band and how did you go about finding the other members?

It took about 2 months until me and larry started getting together to write new songs, we played our 1st show i think july 1st 2002 at the berwick in Boston. We asked our friends to play and they were into it. When you finally had the band assembled, how did the song writing and practices work out? Did you have a big hand in the construction of the songs? What kind of music were you guys shooting for, because there seems to be a variety of influences in the sound of the band.
We pratice about 40 minutes south of Boston which takes a while to get to, I did most of the song writing process, me , Jim Carroll and Dave would write together to write. The music style that we were shooting for was fast hardcore combined with indie influences and eerie sounding stuff.

After playing with Sex Positions for a while now, what would you say are some key elements that really make for a good Sex Positions show? What would be the one show you guys have played that would fit that ideal?

Good sound, playing tight, fun kids, i think my favorite show so far was in daytona beach, florida on tour. The kids there were really supportive of touring bands, they appreciate it much more when bands come through unlike thenortheast like nyc, boston where there are constast shows every night to choose from.

You guys have a 7" coming out on Deathwish Inc. very soon - what should we expect from that?

spring/summer 2003 so many delays thanks to our drummer larry

I remember that Rich said something about SP doing a split with Mannequin at a show a while ago...is that ever going to see the light of day?

at this point, i doubt it, we will see though, we were supposed to hand in music like in decemeber for it, it is now april.

What's up next for Sex Positions, as far as tours, shows, records...all that kind of shit?

I want to coninue playing shows, put out a CDep on deathwish, do some touring this summer.

What are you involved in when you're not doing stuff with the band or hardcore?

school, graphic design, hanging out with my friends in richmond , in nyc, wilkes-barre, going to the dance nights with rich and sibby and watching sibby not dance.

What would be one fact that people would be blown away to know about you?

That im 21 and still straight-edge? that i have a fashion mullet? oh i dont know?

GI Joe or Transformers?

see gi joes are cool to chill with , but they dont do anything, with transformers you can rotate them and change them into out things so im going to say transformers win this battle

Any last comments, shout-outs, fuck yous?

a comment to hardcore kids in general, pick up your instruments and write something new and original for me to listen to, becasue i dont like right brigade and/or the 500 new right brigade style bands that are out right now.
